Mobile Workforce Bill Passes House
The House approved H.R. 1864, the "Mobile Workforce State Income Tax Simplification Act," on May 15. The law would limit state taxation of the wages or other remuneration of any employee who performs duties in more than one state to the state of the employee’s residence, and the state in which the employee is present and performing employment duties for more than 30 days, according to the bill’s official summary.
Society Gets Fashion Write-Up
NYSSCPA members are used to seeing their names in top New York and national publications voicing insights on a variety of tax and accounting topics. But recently, CPAs broke new ground by getting into Women's Wear Daily, when that leading fashion publication printed an article about the May 1 NYSSCPA panel "Mergers and Acquisitions for the Fashion Industry."

NYSSCPA Executive Director Honored
Joanne S. Barry, executive director of the NYSSCPA, has been named this year's "Outstanding Association Executive" by the New York Society of Association Executives. It’s one of the association's Synergy Awards, which go to "individuals who have demonstrated leadership, service and special achievements that benefit the entire association and not-for-profit profession," according to the NYSAE.
Fake Notice from AICPA is a Scam
CPAs--and even members of the general public--have been receiving emails claiming to be from the AICPA that say that the Institute has received complaints about the recipient and as a result their licenses are in immediate danger of being revoked.
NYSSCPA Approved as Sponsoring Org
The New York State Education Department’s Quality Review Oversight Committee approved on Feb. 8 the NYSSCPA as a sponsoring organization that may administer and oversee mandatory quality reviews in New York State.

Society Facilitates Post-Irene & Lee Relief

Members Can Seek Relief from FAE/AICPA Benevolent Funds After Irene
Hurricane Irene, which battered the East Coast this past weekend, caused billions of dollars worth of property damage and left many NYSSCPA members without electricity. In the wake of that disaster, any current NYSSCPA or past member of the Society in need can apply for assistance from the FAE Benevolent Fund.

Society Seeking Input on Blue-Ribbon Panel Recommendations
The NYSSCPA will host a panel discussion on July 11 during the Annual Leadership Conference, which will explore the recommendations of the Blue-Ribbon Panel on Standards Setting for Private Companies recommendation that a private company accounting standards board be formed to oversee a modified form of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) that would apply to nonpublic entities.
Mobility Bill Passes State Assembly
In a milestone vote for New York's accountancy profession, the New York State Assembly on June 20 passed the Senate's conforming cross-border practice mobility bill, S2628-A. After passing in the Assembly, the bill was returned to the Senate for delivery to the governor. Before the bill can become law, it must be considered and approved by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

Manhattan/Bronx Chapter Says 'Thanks'
The Executive Board of the Manhattan/Bronx Chapter gathered last night to say “thanks” to the many firms and business that sponsored continuing professional education (CPE) events for the chapter throughout the year at the chapter's Third Annual Thank You event, held at the FAE Conference Center in New York City. The event also extended a warm 'thank you' to the many volunteers and speakers who helped the chapter over the course of the year in a variety of capacities, including charity events, high school visits and technical sessions.
