Times-Union: DiNapoli to Audit Division of State Attorney General's Office
Although there's no announcement on his Web site yet, the Albany Times-Union is reporting that State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli has launched an audit of a branch of Attorney General Andrew Cuomo's office.
Specifically, DiNapoli's office will audit the Civil Recoveries Bureau, a division assigned to recover money owed to state agencies through litigation.
An engagement letter was sent to Cuomo's staff last week, according to the article, which also notes that this is the first audit of the attorney general's office to be performed since DiNapoli was named comptroller.
The story also points out that this audit begins as both Democrats prepare for the 2010 elections. Both men are expected to run for office.
DiNapoli's office has also subpoenaed records from the New York Racing Association after the nonprofit organization denied the state Comptroller's Office access to its financial records, according to a press release issued by DiNapoli's office.
Prior comptroller audits have found that NYRA failed to pay the state nearly $54 million in franchise fees from 2000 to 2005, according to DiNapoli.
